The Democrats introduced an amendment to a bill sponsored by shills for MBNA; the amendment would prevent poor military members from being screwed over by being forced into bankruptcy when they’re deployed and can’t handle their bills properly because they’re being shot at. The Republicans (wrapped in flags at the time, no doubt) shot the amendment down.
Way to support our troops.
I’m military and I see that most of the world does not care for us. We have to take care of our selves, not even the military will help. So many military people are getting screwed over on other money situations, why not this one too.
This is shameful. Makes me so sad to think that at one time I was a staunch Republican. Our military is underpaid as it is. They always have been. As a Marines wife early in our marraige, I know first hand how difficult a deployment is on the family in peacetime. I can not imagine what these brave people are dealing with now. There have already been horror stories especially with reserveists who have come close to losing their homes while deployed.
Our government and particularly the fat cats in Congress who have no idea of what middle class America faces daily, should be ashamed. I know I am.
Still No Bankruptcy Protection for Troops
As mentioned earlier, the Congress has now passed the bill that makes it harder for anyone to declare bankruptcy. Well, anyone but large corporations that donate millions to politicians, that is. Any bets on whether the President will develop a consc…
Way to go congressional repukes. You are the whores of big businesses and special interest groups who prostitute yourselves in the name of freedom. Shame on you for screwing the very people who protects you and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. Have you no shame? Guess not.
The fact that our soldiers are in Iraq in the first place shows how little disregard these “patriots” have for them. They put the soldiers in the line of fire in a war that was all a big lie, then cut Veteran’s benefits when you get your arms or legs shot off.
Why would anyone think they would put the interests of soldiers before the interests of the banking interests?
The federal government is already keeping people in the military and in Iraq after there ‘voluntary’ enlistments end. They are recalling people who reservist committments have been fulfilled and who cannot afford lawyers to fight in court. Why should they care if the families of these same people are living in their car or on the streets while the breadwinner is being shot at daily. My father was career military and I thank God he retired before all of this mess.
I was raised by a retired military man. I am EVER so proud of my dads service in WWI, as I am proud of all of my unlces, cousins and even my Grandmother, who YES by god, wore army boots in WWI ! The fact that our govt. will send troops all over the world, forcing OUR type of govt on any little nation it feels like, and puts all of our brave troops in danger for POLITCAL GAIN is horrible. Yes, the military, especially the NCO’s are underpaid. Always have been, always will be. We should take better care of our troops and that means teaching them financial responsibility, and helping them out if they can’t make ends meet. Everyone needs to learn how to manage their money. Just becasue you get a credit card application in the mail, doesn’t mean you have to get the silly card.
May the Gods bless all of our troops everywhere!
I JUST HOPE AND PRAY WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TIME WITHOUT GOING UNDER . AS A NATION ,IT DOES NOT LOOK GOOD
I think every politican who voted in favor of the new bankruptcy bill should be replaced, they have lost all thoughts of the very people they vowed to protect and serve, they are now the monkeys of the money boys, plain and simple.
Now is the time for people like John McCain to come forward on behalf of the military and create some legislation that will protect them from this bankruptcy flotsam. Anyone want to start a countdown as to how quickly he does this?
Before you all get your panties in a wad! I’ve been in the military for almost 19 years and yes we are underpaid (who isn’t) but there already is a law in place to prevent Bankruptcy. It’s called the US Soldiers and Sailors Act and it was passed in the early 70s. MBNA did not have the interest of the military in mind they were only looking out for themselves. If you read their bill you’ll find that it would have taken away some of the protection that the USAS act gave the military and allowed interest to accrue on debts not paid (something that they can’t collect right now). That’s why it was voted down by Republicans AND Democrats. Check it out for yourself11
