MT-Blacklist is a wonderful, wonderful thing. In just the past day, it has blocked 8 comments from porn or drug spammers.

Welcome a new addition to the site: GiikiWiki. This new section is, so far, devoted to imagery and geospatial information resources. Fun for geeks.

In case you were looking for them, I’ve removed the LJ Userpics I formerly hosted here. I’ve not made a new one in almost a year, and it’s only using 10% of my bandwidth, so it’s gone. Why would I remove something that still gets 100 megs of traffic in a month? Because most of that traffic is from search spiders or from people using some of the animated GIFs as avatars on other sites (that always pisses me off).

If you are actually interested in the templates I made available, let me know. I may put them back up somewhere else.

Things break down.

This is an eternal truth, and certainly rings true today. The universal remote, bought to replace the DVD remote which broke after having soda poured on it (thanks kid), has recently decided to stop operating the television. It worked for months, and then – poof. Fine, just use two remotes. Big deal.

More fun in entropy-land – the router. Our wifi router decided to give us 10% instead of 100% ever since we moved. No amount of reconfiguring and rejiggering would make it behave. So, I finally got the tech support guys at DLink to RMA it. Get the new one on Friday, hook it up… woohoo! Full speed ahead. Let’s download a DVD image! Fast forward to Sunday.

Sunday, we get back from the carnival (much cotton candy and funnel cakes and spinning rides), and the wifi connection begins to crap out. Looks like the router is randomly rebooting. Then, it begins a cycle of reboots every 15-20 seconds. WTF? Am I getting a DDOS attack, or is it just a piece of shit? Who can tell? Reset the router. Works. Whew. 30 minutes later, stops working to reboot. And reboot. And reboot.

So far, it’s been 90 minutes since it reset itself. I immediately assumed the router was faulty, but now I wonder if it’s possible that there is a DDOS crashing it. Why would someone target me, though? Seems absurd. Also unlikely, considering I have reset the modem and been issued two different IPs during this ordeal, and both of them have had reboot problems. Sigh. Besides, if it’s an attack, wouldn’t it take down the modem, not the router? The modem is first, after all. Anyone have any insight there?

CP

 16 Nov 2003 @ 9:40 PM

I noticed I have an 85 cent credit on my Cafepress account for a referral sale. I can’t see who lists me as a referrer, but whoever you are, “Congratulations!” It’s a bit of a pipe dream for someone with a full-time job (and school and family) to think they’ll make any money on CP, so it’s especially gratifying that I got a sale myself in this time. Someone bought a clock. I think I’ll use my next batch of CafePress Bucks to buy myself a DPRK calendar. That’ll look nice in my cubicle…

Oktoberfest pictures are up. Strangely enough, there is not a single picture from the Oktoberfest itself. You’d think we’d have found something to shoot, but apparently we didn’t.

If you are currently linking to any of the Thoughts on my site, you should look for the new URL. I’ve finished rearranging them all in a lot less time than I expected. Hooray for cut and paste!

If you read this blog via LJ syndication, you may notice a lot of excess posts in the coming days. These are due to my site rebuild. I’m moving the Random Meandering Thoughts archive into the main body of the weblog. There are two benefits to this. First, I no longer have to manually maintain the archive, as it will be merged into the SQL database with the rest of the entries. Second, visitors to the site will be able to find things in the Thoughts archive via the convenient little search tool on the main page (also due to it being in the SQL database).

Of course, there are many links to the Thoughts pages I have posted, so I’ll have to keep them up for a while and then start putting in server redirects to the most popular entries. Fun with geek stuff.

Cafepress has sent me another IP violation notice, this one even more specious than the last.

Apparently some company has trademarked the phrase “spoiled brat.” Go figure.

Ya know, people often say to me, “If you make a design with such-and-such on it, I would definitely buy it and so would x other people.” And then I go to the effort to make these designs and how many people buy them? None? Maybe one, in some cases.

Why bother?

If I don’t get a bunch of sales on my store, Cafepress says they’ll steal my commissions! C’mon, people, help me out here!

Or not, and I’ll use the accrued commission to buy myself a t-shirt or something.

Whoever ordered from the Spoiled Brat store, thanks. I was beginning to think nobody remembered that it was there. Of course, the Che Guevara store is gone now, but I have others. Just go to my store to see the options.

My Odd store hasn’t generated any interest yet, even though I think it’s a funny slogan.

Meanwhile, the kind folks at Cafepress have put out a new topical design – the military bear. Since many of my designs are military in nature, I figured it would be a good fit. So, get your camouflage Winged Ignorance bear today!

WWGD?

Over at the Andy Social Emporium, I’ve added a new design: What Would Guevara Do? I figured the What Would Chthulhu Do? design kind of bombed, so I’d get more political. Enjoy.
