Good god!!! Umm, isn’t it theoretically better to suggest that kids NOT have sex at all?
LOL, it’s a good thing that didn’t happen here….remember the flap when that Surgeon General, (what was her name?) suggested that teens be encouraged to masturbate instead of having sex? Could you imagine the hellfire that would be raised if she’d said “oral sex” instead?!
Sex education that is based on preaching abstinence has hardly been effective, so I guess telling them to just do things that won’t get them pregnant and are less likely to spread STDs is good.
I guess Jocelyn Elders wasn’t wrong, just in the wrong country.
Notice, I said “theoretically”. 🙂 Kids are gonna do it, no matter what we say. It’s our job to get them to do it smarter and safer. However…..as a mom, I can’t in good conscience tell my daughter, when she’s a teen, to give her boyfriend a blowjob instead of having sex. The thing is, oral sex is often a prelude to full sex. Foreplay, if you will. I don’t want her having any sex at all. Jocelyn Elders had the right of it, I always thought….go home and take care of your own business, and stay away from other people’s “business”. Get out of high school at least, and then stock up on condoms and birth control pills.

Mind you, NOT that I practiced what I now preach. 🙁
I don’t think anyone practiced abstinence as a teenager if they could avoid it.
