I don’t know why Michael Moore is a prick, but he is. I even agree with many of his views. But, a documentary filmmaker is not an expert on civics and international relations, no matter how much he yells.

And, fictition is not a word.

This is kind of geek news, but more interesting to me is that I used to work for this guy. He wasn’t a Mac-head then, though.

I’ve moved the past 14 months worth of LJ entries into Movable Type (minus comments), and I’ve added the RSS feed as a syndication for LJ. Anyone who wants to keep up with the site via LJ’s friends pages can now add the feed to their friends list. Those who read via any other RSS feed aggregator, look on the main page for the “syndicate me” link.

Now let’s see if I can sit still for a while…

Here I am, in my new/old home. I’ve imported most of the Livejournal posts over from the past 6 months, and I’ll finish importing them all eventually.

For those wondering, yes, this does mean I’m not doing Userpics any more. Sorry, but I’ve got to pare down a few things if I want to make time for my family. One should never have to “make time” for the family – they should always be at the fore.

The fact that I type almost everything that I write has caused my handwriting skills to atrophy to the level of a brain damaged rhesus monkey’s scribbles.

I can relate to that.

  1. What was the last song you heard? “Don’t Know Why” by Norah Jones – the woman across the office seems to only have the one song from that CD.
  2. What were the last two movies you saw? I’ll say: last one in a theater was Treasure Planet and last one on TV was Gardens of Stone
  3. What were the last three things you purchased? Groceries
  4. What four things do you need to do this weekend? Watch TV, play with the boy, eat, sleep
  5. Who are the last five people you talked to? Tom, Laurie, Jim, Alex, Angie

Boy, am I dull or what? Oh, well.

When I left San Angelo in 2001, the town had no radio station worth listening to. The best you could hope for is something inoffensive, such as the Top 40 Station. Upon returning a few weeks ago, I was pleasantly surprised to notice the one rock station, which had been using a 9-volt battery for power, now was actually capable of being received anywhere in town. I was happily jamming to Sister Hazel or Zwan on the way around town.

This morning I got in the car and was horrified to hear the soulful strains of 80s light rock coming from the stereo. With no fanfare, no information, and no apologies, the one station that didn’t make me cringe at regular intervals has morphed into the one station that can make me cringe non-stop. Great.

In other news, KDGE and KNDD no longer have webcasts, thanks to the predations of the RIAA and ASCAP. Bastards. At least 91X still streams. Equis Te Ere A, Tijuana, Mexico. Woohoo.

I’m not home. Right now, we don’t even have a home to be at. So, if you want me to make you a userpic, piss off. Go bug someone else, cuz I’m going to tell you I’m unavailable and then delete the request.

Have a day.

I’m told there was a bizarre and hilarious moment on Joe Millionaire when a contestant proved her French skills were sub-par.

So, I’ve made a store for it. Don’t blame me, it’s all ‘s fault. 🙂

This is an interesting new twist on the battle between music downloaders and bands/labels. The new Foo Fighters album has an accompanying DVD (and I think the new 3 Doors Down does the same thing) with cool content, such as a couple music videos and screensavers, etc. Also, the CD will launch you to a website where you can stream cover songs the Foos recorded. Alas, this is where my pathetic dialup connection fails me, but that’s to be expected.

And, I can rip the CD to play on my MP3 player just fine, thank you very much, RIAA.

People (particularly business weasels) seem to have an innate desire to re-work the language, changing the acceptable meaning of words etc. One that really bugs me is using “grow” as an active verb, i.e., “We are trying to grow the market.” What is wrong with the other words that actually fit there and don’t require mangling Webster? Examples:

  • We are trying to expand the market.
  • We are trying to build the market.
  • This is an attempt at market growth.

Notice how all those sentences sound more natural? Anyone who thinks using grow as an active verb sounds good – you’re a putz.

This has been a public service announcement from the Opinionated Asshole. Thank you for your attention.

I don’t know where Ernunnos got the list, but it seemed entertaining…

Where were you when?

  1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
I was born 7 years after that.
  2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
Not a clue. I was living in MN at the time, but c’mon, I was 9!
  3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
    In school, 10th grade.
  4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
I was in Salinas, CA – about 45 miles from the epicenter in Los Gatos. Went back to the base and hung out in the electricity-free barracks for a few days, eating cold sandwiches and having class on the lawn.
  5. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
I was in Korea, listening for reactions from the DPRK.
  6. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
I was in class in Southern Arizona (strangely where I work now), and we sat around the dayroom laughing our asses off, knowing this moron was so guilty that he HAD to get convicted.
  7. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
I was outprocessing from Fort Lewis, getting ready to go to class in West Texas.
  8. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
Monterey, DLI, refresher course. Actually, the weekend before the class started, and I was lying in a barren barracks room, listening to a walkman.
  9. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
Must have been at work in Texas. Didn’t make much of an impression, after the big election night debacle.
  10. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)
Didn’t know one had hit there.
  11. When terrorists flew into the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
Reading LJ at home, noticed all the posts about strange doings in NYC. Turned on CNN and sat on the bed trying to make sense of a completely surreal event. For some reason I thought going to work would actually be possible that day. Of course, the base was closed.
